Create a Buzz
June 2024
In June, a giant hive popped up in Reading Town Hall Square, a calming space where visitors could rest, surrounded by a soundtrack written by our composer Nino Auricchio. The event, curated by our friends at Nature Nurture, was part of Reading Climate Festival 2024, organised by Reading Climate Action Network (CAN). As you may have already guessed, the four days of activities promoted the beauty and diversity of bees in our local green spaces.

In addition to 'The Hive' Working with local primary school children, we recorded Bee Happy and Bee Gloomy scripts to highlight the importance of bees for biodiversity, climate change and human health. Our sound designer Dan Rothberger then wove these into two headphone listening experiences.

Mixenden Wild Walk and History Hike
April 2024
Working with the local community, we co-created a History Hike and Wild Walk around the Hebble Brook in Mixenden, Yorkshire, incorporating their feedback into the design of the audio trails. The production process included recording voiceovers with pupils from Ash Green Primary at the local Phoenix FM radio station, as well as combining forces with drama and music students at Calderdale College. Our sound designer Dan Rothberger then sensitvely supported the recorded scripts with sound design, including field recordings from the local area.

Wild Workout
November 2023
Nature Nurture have created the Wild Workout, to help parents and teachers keep children fit and active, whilst also accessing the benefits of nature. A Noisy Silence produced the audio to accompany the workout, aimed at children aged two to eight. The exercises are inspired by the behaviour and movements of animals found in the UK and the music tracks support the sense of fun and movement.

Nature Nurture Soundmap
7th May 2016

The Reading soundmap project involved creating numerous short sound clips that encapsulated different locations in and around Reading. Interacting with characters on a table-top map, visitors were encouraged to explore local places through sound, tapping into their curiosity in a game of 'guess that sound'. The broader aim of the project, commissioned by Intelligent Health, was to inspire local people to walk, run or cycle locally and explore the sounds of Reading for themselves. Below are a few of the sounds that triggered as characters landed at particular locations on the map:
